The 6th of august, Allt åt Alla Malmö initiated The Rojava Electricity Project – 23k in 23 days. The goal is to gather USD 23 000 in 23 days to buy spare parts needed to repair 3 diesel generators. The spare parts will then be transported to the city Amuda in Rojava where they’re needed.
Here comes a short interview with Carl Due, one of the people behind the project and a member of Allt åt Alla Malmö.
First, who are the initiators of this project?
Allt åt Alla Malmö (AåA) is the initiator. Its a socialist activist group in Malmö, Sweden, that works with connecting groups struggling against capitalism and patriarchy. AåA consists of a number of work-groups of which the Rojava work-group is one. It is also this work-group that will, hopefully, in the end, hand over these spare parts that the city of Amuda needs.
Can you say anything about the background of the project?
We were contacted by a representative of the economic committee in Cizîr Canton in which the city of Amuda is a part. We know him from when he lived in Sweden. He told us about the situation with the diesel generators and asked us to check if the spare parts needed could be found in Sweden. When we found that it would cost around 180 000 Swedish kronor we decided that we should start a crowdfunding campaign.
What are you going to do?
First and foremost we are going to try to have all the money gathered by the 29th of august. If we until then haven’t found any cheaper or safer alternative, then we will buy the spare parts at the swedish retailer. We’ve been in contact with the retailer and they do have the parts in store. How we solve the transportation issue will have to be discussed with our contact in Amuda and friends here in Sweden, but in the worst case scenario we’ll fly them down ourselves.
It’s a lot of money that you’re going to try to crowdfund, what makes you believe that you’ll make it?
What’s happening in Rojava is very interesting and the political shift has caught the eyes of many. Especially for all of us who are seeking new ways to solidarity and freedom from capitalism and patriarchy. We believe that we’ll make it with the help of the already existing global network of groups and people who have showed their solidarity with Rojava. We have for a long time had contact with other european organisations and networks who also have worked with Rojava solidarity, and we’re finding new contacts and allies daily – globally even. We think these networks will get us a long way.
We have nothing to lose but a world to win.

Allt åt alla Malmö (aåa) är en socialistisk aktivistgrupp i Malmö som arbetar för att knyta band mellan grupper i samhället som kämpar mot kapitalism och patriarkat och dess konsekvenser. Aåa består i sin tur av ett antal arbetsgrupper varav Rojavagruppen är en. Det är denna arbetsgrupp som initierat och driver kampanjen och det är också den arbetsgrupp som kommer att slutföra och förhoppningsvis överlämna de reservdelarna som staden Amuda behöver.
Kan du berätta något om bakgrunden till projektet.
Ja, vi blev kontaktade av en representant från den ekonomiska kommittén i staden kantonen Cizîr där Amuda ligger. Vi känner honom sedan den tid då han bodde i Sverige. Han berättade om situationen med dieselaggregaten och bad oss kolla om de reservdelar han behövde fanns att köpa i Sverige. När vi såg att det skulle kosta drygt 180 000 kronor så bestämde vi oss för att starta en insamling.
Vad tänker ni göra rent praktiskt?
Först och främst ska vi försöka samla in pengarna till den 29/8. Om vi till dess inte hittat något billigare och säkrare alternativ så kommer vi att köpa reservdelarna hos den svenska återförsäljaren. Vi har varit i kontakt med dem och de har delarna på lager. Hur vi löser frakten sen får vi diskutera med vår kontakt i Amuda och vänner här i Sverige men i värsta fall så flyger vi ner med det själva.
Det är väldigt mycket pengar ni ska samla in. Vad får er att tro att ni kommer att lyckas?
Det som händer i Rojava är väldigt intressant och den politiska utvecklingen har fångat mångas intresse. Speciellt för alla oss som söker nya vägar till solidaritet och frihet från kapitalism och patriarkat. Vi tror att vi kommer lyckas med hjälp av det världsomspännande nätverk som solidariserat sig med Rojava. Vi har sedan länge goda kontakter med andra nätverk och organisationer i Europa, och vi knyter dagligen nya kontakter runt om i världen. Det tror vi kommer räcka långt. Vi har vi inget att förlora men en värld att vinna.
